Roc City Skatepark – Rochester, NY

This Skatepark is a part of a Rochester City Program called ROC the Riverway – The ROC the Riverway Program consolidates more than two dozen transformational projects along the Genesee River into a unified strategy. This will enable Rochester to better leverage the value of it’s riverfront.

Growing up, I have always wanted to pick up skateboarding but I have never seen any skateparks and I did not have friends who are into this. I guess I’m glad I didn’t take it on as I would have ended up with multiple fractured bones. Otherwise, I will continue to stop by skateparks along my path to document people enjoying themselves and being in their own natural element/ world. When I went over to shoot this video, I had no plan and knew no one there but I managed to hype up some of the skaters enough to get them to do tricks on camera. And it all turned out beautifully thanks to the buttery 120FPS and ND filter.

ROAD TO NBA – Shooting with Oumar Faye, Omar Jah & Yacine Sawadogo – University of Rochester

I first met Omar in 2015 at the African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg, NY where we both went to school until 2017. Throughout the years there, I picked up a new-founded interest in basketball thanks to Omar and some of my other friends who explained the game to me and invited me to watch them together. I try playing basketball here and there but I’d rather be in my element behind the camera and yet be involved in a sport that I’m interested in.

Oumar and Yacine also went to ALA but a couple years after I left but we still became friends here due to our similarities and common experiences that we can relate to. We talk about basketball all the time and we actually have a fantasy league. So one day I decided to shoot a video of a quick scrimmage with them, to which they were super excited about. We spent about 3-4hours taking some scripted shots but it was mostly just having fun as friends with the camera around. When I shot this, I didn’t realize that it would be the last video I would shoot on my old Canon 70D. After seeing all the support this project received from friends, family, and internet friends, so I took a step and invested in a new camera, the Canon R6. This video will always remain close to me personally as it marked a serious personal creative milestone.
